Everyday Should Be Valentine’s Day

One of the special days being marked in calendars is Valentine’s Day.

To some people, this is just an ordinary day except others are more sweet, more patient and more tolerant. A few weeks before this day, people are bombarded with all things red as a reminder to get gifts for their loved ones. Do you still give gifts on Valentine’s Day?

Greeting cards and flowers from those who have limited budgets. Weekend getaway, TW Steel Watches, a romantic dinner, jewelry or the latest tech gadget from those with deep pockets.

Whatever gifts will be given, and however this day is going to be celebrated, it is still nice to hear people say that “If Valentine’s Day is celebrated everyday, then the world would be a better place to be in.”

I agree. Its not the gifts nor the celebration but by being more loving, more caring and kinder to other people, that is the true essence of this special day.

Lasang Pinoy Sundays – Steamed Cauliflower

The theme for this week is STEAMED.

I admit we don’t do a lot of steaming here (expect with sweet corn) and it was just last week that I have started to try doing so.

These were being sold cheap in the supermarket last week so I got me two big heads for only PhP35.00 each. I steamed these and just put a little bit of salt and pepper. Yum!

Home-Baked Bread

Snacking turned differently when I re-learned how to bake stuff. We have not been buying the usual biscuits and cookies because the children (and hubby and I as well) have been eating home-baked goodies.

I baked every other day since a 9×9 baking pan of brownies or several batches of mini-loaves and muffins are gone before 48 hours.

Last Monday we had these in our lunchbox for our snacks:

Fried Cream Dory Fillet

The Fried Cream Dory Fillet is undeniably one of the favorites on the dining table.

So what do I do to prepare these easily? I have a concoction ready-made just for these fillet:

  • all purpose flour
  • cornstarch
  • bread crumbs
  • salt
  • pepper
  • dry basil

I have all these in a jar ready to use whenever the children ask for the Creamy Dory Fillet that is if we still have some left in the freezer. I just need to beat eggs to dip the fillet before I use this.

For that batch above,  used additional fresh basil leaves that i cut into very tiny pieces. The smell was wonderful 🙂

Try having this is a seafood restaurant and be prepared to pay for a big bill 😉

Vinegar for Cleaning

I have read about the wonders of vinegar as a cleaning agent. In fact, a good friend even blogged about it in our group blog.

Of course, this being an environmental friendly cleaning agent, I had to give it a try.

A few weeks ago, I tried it for the first time. I used the vinegar in cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen. What I did was spray on the tiles and leave the vinegar for a while. Then I brushed using a tile grout brush. It worked! Even the bathroom faucets got shiny after the cleaning was done.

I smelled like vinegar after the cleaning was done but I didn’t mind at all because I can wash up and have the smell removed.

What made me appreciate using vinegar were the benefits: environment friendly, affordable and not chemical-based.

Shopping

Almost everyone loves to go shopping, whether to find good buys and bargains, to just window shop or to really buy what they want need for whatever reason. Perhaps husbands are the ones who don’t enjoy shopping especially when they just tag along with their wives holding heavy bags.

So what part of the mall or department store do you like to explore?
