Samsung Smart Oven: Chef Lau’s Chicken Katsudobo Recipe

My daughter and I recently attended Samsung Digital Appliances event called Saturdate with Mom. This is by far one of the better events I have been to, because I was able to bring my youngest daughter with me who, along with other kids, immensely enjoyed watching the chefs husband and wife, the Laudicos, whip up delicious food using the Samsung Smart Oven.

And yes, we want one for our home and I’m sure, the food blog will have more entries :D

Anyway, one of the dishes prepared was Chef Lau’s Chicken Katsudobo:

Brush Day + Night with Pepsodent

Tooth-brushing is a task that young children see as not so enjoyable like other fun things to do.

Parents think of different ways to coax their children to brush their teeth at least twice a day. Tooth-brushing habits should be established without exerting a lot of effort in making the young children comply happily.

Pepsodent Brush Day   Night

Pepsodent has devised a way to make “Brush Day + Night” a habit children will look forward to doing by having a sticker book. The sticker book encourages children to brush their pearly whites twice a day, with one sticker to put in the book for every time they do so. Let me just say that brushing the teeth is just half the fun because putting the sticker is the other half of the fun.

Prizes can be negotiated between the parents and the child at the end of a week perhaps, a fortnight or even a month.

Vegetarian Bagoong

I made a big jar of Vegetarian Bagoong.

The resident “nose” and “tongue” aka taste tester in the house said she loves it. She even had two Indian mangoes eaten with the vegetarian bagoong.

Homemade Vegetarian bagoong

And yeah, I plan to sell this healthy alternative to the usual bagoong alamang or shrimp paste soon.

Email me for orders :D

Be Healthy with Nestle Acti-V

As a mom of three, I have to be in tiptop shape to be able to cope with the daily rigors of tasks, big and small, that come my way whether home or work-related. As all moms (and dads) out there will agree with me, there is one thing we can’t afford to be: get sick.

One of the most common complaints we hear from people is that inability to have a regular bowel movement. There are those who take their time doing the deed so to speak but have to wake up early in order to do so otherwise, they will spend a lot of time on the task and be late for whatever appointments that they have for the day. Working moms and dads can relate with this predicament.

Being constipated is something people can do away with especially with symptoms that can cause discomfort and impede daily activities. If you have (1) infrequent bowel movements, (2) swollen abdomen or feels bloated and (3) feels pain in the abdominal area then you definitely have constipation.

The causes of constipation can be from any or all of the following: (1) inadequate water intake, (2) a disruption of the diet or routine, (3) stress [AHA!!], (4) resisting the urge to have a bowel movement [familiar?], (5) overuse of laxatives or stool softeners which may weaken the bowel muscles [ugh!] and (6) inadequate fiber in the diet.

Nestle Acti-V

If in case you suffer constipation often, there are three quick solutions to your problem: (1) Try to drink 2 – 4 extra glasses of water a day, that is on top of what you usually drink, (2) Take warm liquids especially in the morning [ok, time to do the lemon slice in warm water routine] and (3) add fiber to your daily diet. And to make it more delicious and sweeter, try NESTLE ACTI-V with ACTIFIBRAS

Cherie Gil for Nestle Acti-V

Why NESTLE ACTI-V? This is the only yogurt that has fiber in it. These active fibers in ACTI-V are called ACTIFIBRAS which help regulate bowel movement. With strawberry bits in it, NESTLE ACTI-V is not just nutritious but delicious as well. ACTIFIBRAS are scientifically proven in studies done by the NESTLE Research Center to help support the maintenance of a healthy bowel movement and at the same time improve intestinal regularity and transit. This definitely help alleviate the discomforts of constipation as well as abdominal bloating.

CarbTrim and Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

One of the best ways to drink a teaspoon or a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar is to mix this with your regular drink of juice or water. In fact, one of the instructions to having this regularly is to drink a glass of warm water with a T of Apple Cider Vinegar. You can add honey to make the mix sweeter and easier to drink.

This is my way of having a tablespoon or sometimes more, of Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar: mix with CarbTrim and add a slice of lemon or navel orange. TIP: slice a lemon or navel orange and put these in the freezer so you do not need to slice every time you need to make these drinks.

CarbTrim is a carb-blocking product in a refreshing iced tea drink.  It contains Phase 2 white kidney bean, a natural extract clinically-proven to block up to 66% of carbs you eat. ~source

Two of the many benefits of Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar are the following: (Source)

  • Helps control weight
  • Promotes digestion & ph Balance

Now these two would be great together in losing the weight. We need to remember though to moderate food intake and take one or two kinds of exercise to help lose the unwanted pounds.

By the way, I won TEN BOXES of CarbTrim through this photo, so go follow CarbTrim on Twitter and who knows, you might also win boxes of CarbTrim like me :D

Here are the boxes.

VitaPops

Have your children tried VitaPops yet?

VitaPops

Now here is newer and better way to get the children to load up on vitamin C to protect themselves from illnesses.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here are some FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about VITAPOPS, from the makers of Ceelin:
1. What is VitaPops?
VitaPops is the first & only Vitamin C in pop rocks format in the market that guarantees full protection while ensuring that kids enjoy the experience of taking it:
Vitamin C: protection from sickness
Pop Rocks Format: fizzles and pops inside the mouth for an enjoyable experience
2. How is it packaged?
VitaPops is contained in single-dose sachet packaging so there’s no need to worry about spillage or breakage of bottles. It’s very handy and convenient to bring anywhere.
3. How much is it?
Each sachet costs P10.
4. When will it be available in the market?
It is already available in all leading drugstores nationwide.
5. Is VitaPops sweet like candy?
VitaPops contains just the right amount of sweetness so that kids will enjoy its taste. The best part about its sugar content is that it only contains 1/5 the sugar level found in regular vitamins, which reduces the risk of tooth decay.
6. Is VitaPops strictly for 7 to 12 years old only?
Children as young as four years old can already take and enjoy VitaPops.
7. How often should kids take VitaPops?
Children can take 1-2 sachets per day or as directed by a pediatrician.
8. Can my kids get overdosed with VitaPops?
No, Vitamin C is water-soluble so any excessive intake will just be excreted through the urine.
9. How is it different from Ceelin Chewables?
We know the challenge of dealing with 7-12 year olds, we understand the need of moms to continue protecting their kids from sickness and keeping them healthy without the difficulty of giving vitamins/healthy food. We need to reward kids just to take what’s good for them. Finally, we have exactly what we need with with Ceelin Chewables as well as VitaPops — available in fun format options, which guarantee full protection. Both are yummy and healthy for kids and are in formats that they love: chewable and pop rocks.
10. Vitamin C in VitaPops comes in which form?
VitaPops is in a non-acidic Sodium Ascorbate formulation. It doesn’t cause stomach irritation even if it is consumed on an empty stomach.
11. What is the shelf life of VitaPops? Because it’s made of granules, don’t they get sticky and solidify after sometime?
VitaPops is best consumed within 2 years from when it was produced. Solidification happens when the product is exposed to humidity and moisture. To prevent this from happening, we recommend keeping VitaPops in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
12. What makes VitaPops pop? Is that safe?
VitaPops is safe to take and is FDA-approved. It pops because when the granules that contain Carbon Dioxide come in contact with moisture, it dissolves and the gas escapes quickly producing a fizzing and popping sound.
13. Why should I give VitaPops to my children? Why should I trust this new product?
Aside from being a vitamin that boosts immunity and that kids enjoy due to its unique and fun formulation, VitaPops comes from the makers of Ceelin, the country’s leading brand of Vitamin C from Unilab. You are assured of affordable, quality healthcare.
14. Can my kids get allergies from VitaPops?
VitaPops is generally safe and does not cause any allergies. But it is still best to consult with your pediatrician.
15. How much Vitamin C can my child get from VitaPops? How does it compare to vegetables, fruits and milk?
1 VitaPops sachet contains 50 mg of Vitamin C and is equivalent to 5 glasses of milk / 28 pieces of calamansi / 1 ½ glasses of freshly squeezed orange.
16. Could vegetables, fruits and milk rich in Vitamin C give my child the necessary amount to ensure full immunity?
While these may be healthy for your kids, there may not be enough Vitamin C to satisfy the recommended daily intake of 35 mg for 7-9 yrs old and 45 mg for 10-12 yrs old. For example, for every 100g serving of fresh squash only 9 mg of Vitamin C can be provided; 100g of Cabbage at 36.6 mg of Vitamin C; Tomato at 13 mg. For milk, every 250 mL serving only has around 2.6 mg of Vitamin C. It would still be recommended for your kids to take Vitamin C supplements for full Vitamin C protection.
VitaPops is a product of Unilab.
