The Dona Elena Cuisinera Club Celebrity Cook-off Challenge happened at Annabel’s Restaurant on Tomas Morato in Quezon City yesterday, October 24, 2009.
Two teams competed for the coveted Golden Spoon. Both teams had a chef who instructed the team members what to do.

One team was called Hijos and Hijas with Gladys Reyes (in green) and blogger Sire Arevalo (in printed blue blouse).

The other team was called Don and Donas with Bernadette Allyson.

Both teams were asked to choose the ingredients readily available for their use. They were given an hour to whip up their scrumptious dishes.

Presenting the cooked dishes to the audience:

And the winner is…

…team Don and Donas led by Chef Senen Araneta with Bernadette Allyson, hershey Bardon, Jovie Gonzales and Catherine Yu.

I apologize for the uncooked seafood but I could not resist posting this photo of a crablet in the clam. I got a kilo of these halaan for lunch and decided to take photos when I got surprised to see these little creatures. Yep, around half the clams had these crablets inside.

Here are some (soon-to-be) baked mussels and mussels cooked in lemongrass broth which I am sure some of you have already seen.
Have a great week, everyone!

I was a bit challenged with this one and since I can not find any tricolore food photo in my files that I have cooked/made, I decided to put this hastily-taken photo of a glass of Sago’t Gulaman. Gutom na kasi at that time kaya hastily taken, more like an after-thought,

Sago’t gulaman. One of the Pinoy thirst-quenchers that seems to have taken a back seat because of the influx of sugar-laden soda drinks, tea-based drinks and other drinks called shakes with chemically enhanced flavors. This is perfect for summer, isn’t it? If not, a halo-halo will do just fine
Gotta.have.one.like.this.today ->note to self.
Yeah and not think that I need some weight loss pills to get ready for the beach this summer

As I looked at the food photos in my files, I decided to choose layered ice cream cake photos from Five Cows Restaurant, venue of the FilipinoMomBlog.com’s first meet-up/dinner.
I changed my mind though because ice cream cake, though very much appreciated, is not really a Filipino food.
So the quest began until I remembered that I have photos of buko pie from Collette’s which we bought when we went swimming a few weeks ago.
Now I present a slice of buko pie, my entry for Lasang Pinoy Sunday’s Layer Eat Up:

There, layers of crust, custard and young coconut slices.

Snacking turned differently when I re-learned how to bake stuff. We have not been buying the usual biscuits and cookies because the children (and hubby and I as well) have been eating home-baked goodies.
I baked every other day since a 9×9 baking pan of brownies or several batches of mini-loaves and muffins are gone before 48 hours.
Last Monday we had these in our lunchbox for our snacks:

Lasang Pinoy Sundays theme for this week is all about the “walang kamatayang” SILOG.
The more popular terms are tapsilog, longsilog and tocilog.
But now there are different varieties like hotdogsilog, Ces’ entry pusitlog, danggitsilog, spamsilog, cornedbeefsilog, friedchickensilog, hamsilog and anything and everything that catches the fancy of the one preparing the food or the one who will eat the preparation.
Imagination has no limitation when it comes to the silog combination.
Below is our all-time favorite Rodic’s tapsilog, which I also featured several times in my blogs with the tapa already flaked for easier chewing

Rodic’s tapsilog on our picnic mat.
When my hubby had our photo taken, our son didn’t look at the camera because he was busy eating his tapsilog. When asked why, he said he missed eating the combo
