Lasang Pinoy Sundays for this week is about Christmas Goodies.
I would have featured a few of the Christmas donuts that we had for the past two weekends but these were too “westernized” for me.
I have decided then to feature the butterscotch bars that the kids and I baked last week. This was in preparation for my Frugal Christmas theme. Yeah, even if I still have to practice baking which means I will shell out more than I have to, sige na, pangatawanan ko na 😀
Ok, I cheated.
I used a ready mix butterscotch/brownie mix (whatever) for this. I don’t know, it tasted like how a butterscotch bar should taste like. It was a bit, a teeny wee bit crunchy on top and soft and moist in the inside.
All sliced pieces baked from the 9 x 9 baking pan were gone before 24 hours were up (should I mention that we still had a pack of food for the gods given to us during that time). Maybe these were good to be given as goodies after all 😉

I just love DIY projects. In the last two years I made a lot of notepads that I gave away.
Personalized gift tags? Check.
Family photo Christmas tree ornaments? Check!
Now I want to buy beads in bulk so I can make bracelets like these to give away. My eldest daughter used to make bracelets too and she has some leftover materials I have to find first before getting the supplies I might need.
Gifting need not be expensive as long as one is creative. This may mean some manual labor but that would be more fun than jostling your way to the cashier during sale events, right?

What did you get for Christmas? Have you finally mastered the art of gifting after all these years?
New clothes? Toys for your children? A new bag? Tech toys? Kitchen gadgets? Dinner ware? Personalized pub mugs? Baked goodies? New shoes?
Or perhaps a new lease in life like what some of our brothers and sisters down south got.
I don’t know if it is considered as new lease in life if they survived but their family members did not. Yes, knowing as I am quite obsessed with knowing details when things like these happened, I read articles, watched videos, discussed when someone’s willing to listen and thought about them. I prayed for them too.
So now I ask again, “What did you get for Christmas?”
The answer depends on what values you treasure most: family, love, friendship, peace of mind, and being a channel to be able to help others are just a few things that may give satisfaction not just for Christmas but for the rest of the year.

So many fellow Filipinos working in the Middle East are coming home.
They are called OFW or Overseas Filipino Workers whose remittances amount to millions (or billions?) of dollars sent to the country every year. They keep the economy afloat and are even called as “Present Day Heroes”.Very apt I must say, for they don’t just “fight” and toil for their families but (in)directly help the country’s economy too.
With the ongoing conflict, they found themselves without jobs and uncertain future. With the rising oil prices along with the prices of basic commodities, we face a difficult life ahead and with what’s happening, it’s bound to be worse.
We all are challenged not just to cut back on unnecessary expenses but to live simply within our means.
Here are some few tips on how to live simply and have fun:
Having less money doesn’t mean having less fun. Happiness can’t be defined with how much you have in your wallet 🙂
If you are looking for something to give your loved ones this holiday season, take advantage of the pre-Christmas season sale happening around the metro like the Adidas Refresh Your Gear Promo.
Bring in your athletic shoes and get PhP500 or PhP1000 off when you trade them for a new pair.

Last year’s tree was adorned with handmade decorations like little paper trees, photos and yes, paper stockings. Below is one of the many photos we have put up the tree:
These handmade decorations were tied with a silver cord.
Have a great weekend and I hope we don’t get tied down with a lot of stress and negative things 🙂
