Reality Check

Exercise and diet is a long, slow and sure way to be fit and healthy. Not just any diet, this diet should consist healthy food. I know this for a fact because I have a living example of what this vava-voom combination can do, right friend?

Other may resort to using the best weight loss pills to help make the process of slimming down faster. There are those who’d take other means like dancing, walking, running, or hula-hooping as a fitness routine rather than go to a gym and face machines. And toned down trainers.

I used to be enrolled in Zumba classes during summer. When classes started I found that I didn’t have the time to go back. Still working on my sked but I know in time I will be back. Group dancing is more fun than me dancing alone (like no one is watching) at home because in a group, you’d get embarrassed to sit and rest since everyone’s still dancing. At home when I try to dance, I’d end up sitting and taking a break on every other song in the play list. Duh.

I think I’d be devising a plan for this diet and exercise combination especially now that I will be turning a year older this week.

Reality check.

Dupe asks Pinoy: “Saan ang Lakad Mo?”

Filipinos are one of the more sociable people in the planet. If by chance you meet someone you know on the street (or in a mall), one of the few greetings exchanged would be:

“O, kumusta ka na?” “Saan ka galing?” “Saan ang lakad mo?”

Aside from these usual introductory greetings, Pinoys seem to find it hard to part ways with friends they meet, and the usual goodbyes are longer than the actual conversations. We even have small talks and make friends with people we don’t know while in a bus or the MRT or at the supermarket’s long line and even while getting documents for Medicare part D plan.

Funny isn’t it, but so true.

We Pinoys are an adventurous bunch but that doesn’t mean we are careless. In our society where things have gotten fast-paced, modern and everyone seems to be in a hurry, we try to be as practical as we can , using on things that will be reliable and able to keep up with everything that we have to do.

Dupe Asks Pinoy: "Saan ang Lakad Mo?"

Because we live in a tropical country, we love wearing slippers. Not just ordinary slippers but functional, stylish and not super expensive.

Personally, one of the brands I use as slippers when I need to go places is my Dupe pair of slippers. This was what I wore when I went to Divisoria with my hubby last Sunday. With all the walking we did, I didn’t have any problems with it.

So, Dupe asks Pinoy: “Saan ang lakad mo?”

Live Simply

So many fellow Filipinos working in the Middle East are coming home.

They are called OFW or Overseas Filipino Workers whose remittances amount to millions (or billions?) of dollars sent to the country every year. They keep the economy afloat and are even called as “Present Day Heroes”.Very apt I must say, for they don’t just “fight” and toil for their families but (in)directly help the country’s economy too.

With the ongoing conflict, they found themselves without jobs and uncertain future. With the rising oil prices along with the prices of basic commodities, we face a difficult life ahead and with what’s happening, it’s bound to be worse.

We all are challenged not just to cut back on unnecessary expenses but to live simply within our means.

Here are some few tips on how to live simply and have fun:

Having less money doesn’t mean having less fun. Happiness can’t be defined with how much you have in your wallet 🙂

It’s Been Awhile

It has been awhile, no, it has been a long time since we last went to our family biking/walking/running bonding time.

Sunday

The thule rack is dusty and so are the bikes. The kids still can’t ride without training wheels and that is something not to be proud of because they are not that young anymore.

I always tell the family, next Sunday we will go do these things again but sleep, that elusive sleep wins over more than anything including breakfast and the need to be fit.

I always tell myself, tomorrow, I will start my early morning walking routine but then either the online lure is more powerful or the bed is pulling me back to its soft comfort.

On Sunday, we will do something different and I am hoping even with the lack of preparation, my legs are up to the task even if I still feel pain from walking and hiking for two days with my school children.

Leslie Sansone: The Essential Walker’s Journal

I bought a book last Saturday, The Essential Walker’s Journal by Leslie Sansone.

Why not? I have been remiss with my usual walking habit and have gained unsightly bulges where these can’t be hidden. Need I say I need to learn more when it comes to maintaining the weight loss I had before? I think I do.

Browsing through the book/journal, I feel I can not do all the obligations written in the daily pages but then again, “no guts, no glory” and “No pain, no gain” should jump start my determination to walk the talk 😀
