Gold Christmas Tree Ornaments

I have written posts about our Christmas finds in more ways than one which include my Frugal Christmas in my other blogs. Among others I blogged about Personalized Gift Tags, white gift wrappers, being on the lookout for Baked Goodies Recipe and I was able to make Butterscotch Bars. We were able to make Handmade Paper Stockings which hang by the silver cord. Bargain books anyone?

For the FilipinoMomBlog Fab Holiday Finds Gold theme, I present a wee photo of our Christmas tree and some of its gold ornaments.

That ribbon has seen a lot of Christmases in our home because we had these for the last ten years.

Along with the gold ribbons that I made 10 years ago, are gold beads, stars and bell chains, gold stars and golden sparkles. The gold balls that hang on the wreath on the door. Our Advent Wreath has gold chains too.

So there goes our Christmas decorations bedecked in gold.

The Water is Wide

One of the few songs that I love to listen to is the song “The Water is Wide/Deep River” as sung by Barbara Streisand. Click here to listen to her sing. The song has a relation to my entry, in terms of its lyrics, and NOT its interpretation.

Below is a photo of a river whose bed rose because of the sand deposits from the lahar flows as aftermath of the Mount Pinatubo eruption which happened in the early 1990s, after being dormant for 500 years.

Click here to read about its effect.

The Macolcol River was not a wide river before the volcanic eruption but it became so due to the forces of nature that men can not stop. The water has stopped flowing too. To think this river suffered only minor damage compared to other river system just shows how nature is really a force to reckon with.

Pardon the photo quality because we were in transit when I took a snapshot while on the new and taller bridge crossing the river:

The river is not flowing anymore, except maybe during typhoon season. It looks like a wide expanse of white desert with pine trees on either side and the mountains as its backdrop.

I wonder if Pomegranate trees will survive here?

The water should flow towards the sea, though I have not seen that happen in a long time.

Sweet and Sour Pork

Saucy.

What comes to mind first?

For me, this:

Sweet and sour pork. Yes, a Chinese recipe but it has come to be a Filipino dish that we love.

I love this but honestly, I haven’t tried cooking that. Maybe because we haven’t had pork for a long time (except pork steak cuts for baon). I tried sweet and sour sauce with fried tilapia though.

That by the way was an order from Chowking 😉 Tastes good but a tad too sweet. I could do with more lean meat than fat and more vegetables in the dish.

Pancakes for Breakfast

Every Saturday, participants post photos based on a theme. The theme for this Saturday is BREAKFAST.

See a Filipino breakfast here.

Young and old alike, pancakes are breakfast favorites. From those plain pancakes to those fancy pancakes with add-on like chocolate chips or marshmallows on top, these are on the top of the list of must-haves for breakfast or even any time of the day.

Pancakes as my children’s heavy snacks served one cool afternoon 🙂

Personalized Gift Tags

Join our weekly Tuesday Fab Holiday Finds meme at the FilipinoMomBlog.com.

This is the first round of the weekly Fab Holiday Finds over at FilipinoMomBlog.com.

For this week, the theme “any color” is what will guide us as we start off this fabulous Christmas meme.

Below is a more detailed version of one of the personalized Christmas gift tags I made last Sunday. I know it is not as fancy as the ones being commercially made but I still decided to push through with this simple project.

Yeah, I know some glue drippings can still be seen on the paper, bear with me, I haven’t done this for a while 🙂

Details for cost and materials can be found here, along with the other gift tags I have made.
