Dona Elena Cuisinera Club

Dona Elena Cuisinera Club is a virtual hub where mothers, health practitioners and foodies get together virtually to share recipes that will promote healthy eating.

Not only do these members meet in the virtual world, they get to meet each other too, through monthly cooking lessons.

Can healthy and nutritious food go hand in hand? Yes!

How can this be?

Through the use of olive oil in preparing healthy, nutritious and of course, yummy food.

Dona Elena Olive Oil

What are the benefits of olive oil?

  • It is rich in monounsaturated fat with anti-inflammatory and anti-hypertensive properties.
  • It can lower cholesterol level and reduce the risk of coronary heart disease AS LONG AS healthy and active lifestyle is also being practiced.
  • Olive oil is rich in polyphenols which is a potent antioxidant that scavenges harmful free radicals in the body.

Go ahead, throw away those fat-laden and/or salty junk food and start learning to cook healthy and nutritious food.

You won’t need to read a lot about chemical-based weight loss supplements, herbal whatnot, alli and why starving yourself  is bad (LOL) to be able to live a healthy lifestyle 🙂

The choice is yours to make, here is to healthy living!

Christmas 2009 is Almost Here

With Christmas 2009 just a few weeks away, it is no wonder malls are having possible gifts on display. Bazaars are happening left and right.

I do not want to dampen the joyous Christmas spirit but here in our country, at least the way I see it, Christmas will have a different meaning after all the things that happened to a lot of people and families.

Of course, husbands/male partners will still think of going to aisles that say “gifts for her” as would wives/female partners do. That is natural.

But for me who will be starting my Frugal Christmas year 2 for Christmas 2009, I hope to instill Christmas with less emphasis on the material things with my children.

Running

I have been walking (with a little running in between) last month for a few days a week but this has stopped when we were ravaged by a super storm. I don’t know, I was somehow afraid to walk the streets where the flood waters flowed along 🙁

I lost some weight while I was doing my morning rounds, I must say. On days I don’t go out, I try to do (an imitation) of sun salutation movements. Both when combined contributed to the little shrinking of ze waistline. That is until I stopped the routine.

And now I am back to the waistline that needs some trimming.

Ahhmm, I am tempted to do quick weight loss but I know I need more than that.

Why? I am looking at a goal, even if it the shortest distance. Oh well, it may be a possibility and I will not just keep my fingers crossed, I will get up and go out and start reaching for that goal, one step at a time.

Sunflower Days

photohunter

My other entry, almost sunset photo is here.

Lovely sunflower eh? I wish to see lots and lots of these. Why?

With so much destruction and devastation brought about by the two typhoons that ravaged the country recently, it is easy to just pretend that everything was just a bad dream but its not.

I long for sun-kissed days, even parched lips and prickly heat, days at the beach, sunflowers and colorful sunsets.

A little rain every now and then to quench the thirst of the earth and to bring a refreshing feeling would also be perfect.

I can dream, can I?

“Lord, we don’t need this one now to add more suffering and to sow more panic and fear to what we have been through.”

Our Country Needs a Break

Next to summer vacation, Filipinos looks forward to Christmas vacation as a way to spend quality time with their families and loved ones.

I am sure a lot of travel plans have been worked out already not just orlando vacation rentals but trips to the nearby island resorts for some R and R.

If however, there is not even an iota of possibility that these kinds of fun vacations are possible for most of us, then let me just say we need a different kind of vacation, a break perhaps, from all these sufferings we have been through, we have witnessed the past few weeks.

I am sure after being battered, devastated, villages and homes buried, flooded and all else that will make  this nation and its people  even more vulnerable has happened, we really need a breather from all of this.

I feel the suffering of my fellow Filipinos and I really pray hard that we will be able to surpass all these things that has happened.

I do not even want to think about the effects in the days to come considering those that were badly hit are agricultural lands.

I hope and pray that this break we need is not too much to ask, oh deal Lord.

Here by the way, as of this writing, is the latest report from ABS-CBN with a situation report from NDCC.
