This small bottle of Smokey Kettle Maple Syrup was given by a good friend MC around two or so years ago. The photo was taken last year or so ago.I remember when we were still going to grad school, we’d go home at night (sometimes classes end a little after 8pm) with her younger sister CC who graduated with honors in her course.
Both women are admirable, MC being a teacher like me and CC who stopped being a corporate accountant to become a business woman. She went through medical coding training courses to become a transcriptionist later on. I am not sure if she is still in this kind of business.

Egg sandwich has got to be one of my favorite sandwich fillings, whether prepared with a little bit of mayo, pickles and cheese or cooked as scrambled egg where greens and tomatoes are added in the ensemble, yes, I have simple tastes 🙂
I love to prepare this as a sandwich filling (more than I love to buy these egg sandwiches already made) because not only is the spread a tummy filler, it is also nutritious.
I used a French Baker raisin bonnet in this sandwich.
Just go to another place away from people if you feel that you can not hold it in for the after-smell is not good, hahaha!

Summer is supposed to be the time when one should look good enough to fit into a swimsuit 😀
But with ice cream temptations and other cold, yummy and sweet concoctions, one would surely need the best appetite suppressants to be able to resist the urge to grab one of these or maybe two 🙁
So, how do you stay clear of these sugar-laden sweet and cold treats?
- Drinks lots of water
- Have fresh fruits instead
- Have drinks as natural as can be like smoothies but be sure to cut down on the sugar since the fruits are naturally sweet already
- Don’t go to the malls where you are most like tempted to buy yourself a cone or a special

We always have fresh tomatoes at home. Tomatoes are wonderful fruits and there are many ways to use these for the different food that we like to have.
These may be omelet, pasta, ginisang ulam, eaten as side dish or as sandwich filling.
So why did I put these tomatoes instead of a photo of our (a bit cramped) kitchen? Because these are always on the kitchen counter several times a week for our food preparation 🙂
In fact we just had an omelet a while ago for breakfast and you can probably guess what is in it 😀

Plantain bananas, oats and chocolate chips are what can be found inside this bread that I make at home. Sometimes using the same recipe, I also make these as muffins.
Yes, I know, putting chocolate chips, even if its the semi-sweet kind is not really a good idea for me who really needs diet pills, wait make that, needs to lose weight but the aroma of chocolate and banana in bread is wonderful for me!
I always make four batches of mini-loaves of this kind and always, always, it is a hit with the hubby and the kids who love to have the bread still warm. If I bake it in the morning before it turns dark, everything is gone.
Served best with coffee or milk 🙂

Yes, Weng’s Cafe Munchkin had its first birthday last February 12! To celebrate this one-year blog anniversary, Cafe Munchkin’s resident chef is having a birthday blowout! Woohoo!
Here are the mechanics:
All you have to do is post an entry on your blog about who or what you consider to be the greatest influence/s on your cooking, food preferences or views on food (that is, if you yourself don’t cook) and how that influence comes through. Don’t forget to link to this entry so I can get a pingback from you. Then, come back to this post and leave a comment informing me that you have already posted an entry. You have until 11:59pm (CST) of March 9th, that’s two weeks from today, to post your entries.
Ok, now here are my answers:
- Who do you consider the greatest influence on your cooking? I must say that both my parents are my influences in my cooking. Both can cook although they have different preferences. My father likes cooking with meat whereas my mother likes food with fish and vegetables. Their meals are simple but are very delicious, more like soul food or comfort food for me.
- My food preferences. I do not have food preferences but what I cook for my family mostly stems from inspiration and what I think they will appreciate more. Simple home-cooked meals do well for me because I am a working mom. We have not been having pork though for a long time now and if we do, these are far and in between. I mostly serve lean chicken and fish plus more vegetables and fruits.
- How do those influences come through? As I have mentioned, my parents cook simple home-cooked meals and that is what I do too.
Happy blog anniversary Weng! More food posts with wonderful photos 🙂
