Shopping for Baking Gadgets

One of the things I enjoy most when I am in the mall is looking at kitchen gadgets, next to looking at books and discount furniture.

Lately, I have discovered the joys of baking. Not that I bake decadent goodies but rather good enough to be appreciated by my family.

Of course, some of the things on my list that I am looking forward to getting in the near future are gadgets that can help me do better with my baking skills. Even if baking is a bit tiring, at least I know how the food my children are having was prepared

How Was Your Valentine?

Valentine’s Day has come and gone and yes, people have celebrated this day differently.

For us, we went to my eldest daughter’s school to watch the cheering competition I am sure a lot of families and couples of course celebrated this day in different ways.

I am sure a lot of families went out of town to celebrate which was our idea at first but the kids wanted to just stay at home 😀

To the beach? To a nature park? Reservations at Westgate? The possibilities are endless!

No matter how this day was spent, what is important is to feel loved and to give love not only on this day but the whole year through 🙂

Which reminds me, I have asked and written about Favorite Romantic Movies and Favorite Love Songs 🙂

Morning Smog

One of the major causes of respiratory diseases or triggers of an allergy/asthma attack is air pollution. Ugh. It is a bad condition when one sees how much those who are affected suffer.

Smog is very apparent here in Mega Manila that every time we travel to work in the morning, the steel buildings in the business district where our workplace is located are not seen clearly until one is very near them.

I’m not kidding, see the photo below:

Never mind the traffic, now that is another sad story.

Belt Tightening

The business sector is frightening. So many big companies are folding up and millions of people are affected. Why millions? Because one employer affected by his company folding up has most likely a family who he supports.

There are those who operate in the underground economy who are also affected. There are a lot of people who benefit from the underground economy, those who do buy and sell different products like food. And because their businesses are considered in the small-scale sector, they see no reason to have their businesses insured unlike big businesses who has to get business insurance.

People are not choosing their jobs anymore. Some women would go for man jobs if it means getting work and getting pay for it.

One thing for sure, now is the time to seriously practice tightening the belt in preparation for more punches and kicks. Or should I say, we should not stop tightening the belt as of now.

Sending a Message

Arts and crafts are a big thing for me, as a mother and as a teacher. I have written articles about why it is important to teach these to children here and here.

One of the ways to show how creative the children are is by giving away handmade greeting cards during special occasions. Be these manually made or done using the computer, I am sure these will be appreciated well.

One of the ways to send greetings to loved ones during special occasions is by sending online greeting cards. Yes, these are economical and has a fast delivery.

The other day, I saw my six year old daughter Tania make a Valentine greeting card on the desktop and here is what she made:

Simple but it sure brings the message across 🙂

Collette Buko Pie

As I looked at the food photos in my files, I decided to choose layered ice cream cake photos from Five Cows Restaurant, venue of the FilipinoMomBlog.com‘s first meet-up/dinner.

I changed my mind though because ice cream cake, though very much appreciated, is not really a Filipino food.

So the quest began until I remembered that I have photos of buko pie from Collette’s which we bought when we went swimming a few weeks ago.

Now I present a slice of buko pie, my entry for Lasang Pinoy Sunday’s Layer Eat Up:

There, layers of crust, custard and young coconut slices.
