Healthy 2011

Hubby has joined the throngs of people who have been sick because the temperature has gone a bit below 20 degrees. I know it seems like an exaggeration because much as I’m loving the super cool weather, a lot are getting sick and even my little boy is having a bit of asthma attacks in the early mornings.

People are buying up medicines on cough, fever, colds and viral-infection related conditions. Shouldn’t we be spending on things that will make us healthy and not on things that made us sick?

How can increase immunity to air-borne illnesses/weather-related ones?

  • Increase intake of healthy food
  • Increase intake of liquids like water and fresh juices
  • Bundle up if needed before going out or during sleep
  • Avoid cold beverage or food
  • Avoid sleeping late which decreases immunity to these diseases
  • Avoid going to crowded places where you are most likely interact with people who have these illnesses

Let’s all make 2011 a healthy year for all of us!

Cabin Fever

This Christmas break is truly a break for us and the children, it seems, are having cabin fever, having been cooped up at home for several days. BUT! I don’t want to go to the malls to while away the time because

a) it’s expensive;

b) it’s crowded with too many people;

c) we don’t want to get sick.

This cool weather, though I love so much because there is no oppressing heat, is causing a lot of people having asthma attacks (thank God there’s none for my son though he had an attack a week before Christmas) and respiratory-related illnesses so much so that people who wear scrubs uniforms are in for the long haul even after the new year.

Respiratory illnesses and the virus that cause these are airborne and we don’t want to catch any viruses from others so we will stay home to be safe than sorry 🙂

Manual Labor

I was doing a little research on chocolates when I remembered the term Swisher Sweets from a conversation with a friend not so long ago so I immediately Googled what these were. Oh no, they can’t be used for baking! 😀

Anyway, I’ve been meaning to bake goodies with chocolate to give away to hubby’s siblings and their families. I’ve got the basic ingredients for baking and I’ve already practiced doing buttercream frosting the other day.

How was it? I miscalculated the milk so it was a bit flowing, tsk, tsk! I still got a few days before Christmas to practice on that particular skill and if I don’t make it perfectly, I’d probably ditch the frosting altogether for the goodies and make these for my children, instead of for the giveaways.

Why so? There is that thing called “appreciating” what has been given as gifts, especially those that required manual labor that some people don’t seem to understand. Oh well…

Magnolia Ice Cream Christmas Limited Edition

THE Magnolia Ice Cream we all love is offering Christmas limited edition ice cream flavors we would surely fall in love again.

I remember years ago that I get excited whenever we would go buy the monthly special called “Flavors of the Month”. And yes, I distinctly remember too that big ice cream cart with a bell that sounds like “come here” to my young ears. Mama would let me choose what I’d like and always, my choice would be twin popsies (popsicles).

Anyway… Magnolia Ice Cream without the Nestle name attached to it is back.

And back they are with new flavors and these include the limited edition Christmas ice cream namely Vanilla Praline, Caramel Cheesecake, and Apple Strudel. These three new flavors were introduced to a select group of mommy bloggers.

Magnolia Ice Cream Limited Edition Vanilla Praline

Vanilla Praline has cashew praline with streaks of caramel vanilla in vanilla ice cream base. If you love vanilla ice cream, Magnolia has the best vanilla ice cream.

Magnolia Ice Cream Limited Edition Caramel Cheesecake

Caramel Cheesecake has cheesecake bits and caramel ripple in a caramel ice cream base. I super love caramel ice cream flavors (and candy too!).

Magnolia Apple Strudel Ice Cream

The Apple Strudel has apple cinnamon bits with crushed chocolate pretzels swirled with a combination of green and red ripple and enhanced with creamy vanilla flavor.

These Magnolia ice cream limited edition are available till February 2011. The containers, with in-mould labelling has a tub wrap design won by a student for the theme “Daang Matuwid“. And for the frugal and practical mom, these tubs can be used in more ways than one.
