Mabolo or Velvet apple seems to be a rare fruit these days.
Mabolo tastes like apple, only softer and fleshier.I remember eating this as a child because our neighbor had a tree and under it was a bench where we (my neighbor friends and I) could sit and eat mabolo.

I think most men love Mafia movies. My husband does and I must say he loves these with a passion especially the scenes with adrenaline rushing car chases among alleys and/or scenic highways.
No question why Mafia Wars is one of the more popular game app in Facebook (which the hubby does not play, btw).
Most Mafia bosses are portrayed as mostly surrounded by a posse of heavily set armed (not visible) men, has cohiba cigars on their hands, have big bullet-proof cars, have beautiful daughters, live in posh homes and have slick hair that seemed to have been combed with pomade. Don’t ask me why I know what a pomade is please 😀
I also like movies that are Mafia-themed but sometimes the plot gets predictable that it gets boring because one gets a feeling that “I’ve seen that before”.
If there was one tagline I’d probably remember from a Mafia movie, it would be this from Scarface:
“In the spring of 1980 the port at Mariel Harbor was opened, and thousands set sail for the United States. They came in search of the American Dream. One of them found it on the sun washed avenues of Miami… wealth, power and passion beyond his wildest dreams. He was Tony Montana but the world will remember him by another name… Scarface“

The end of last year signaled grief to my father’s side of the family when a grand uncle passed away. We were able to visit him a few days before he breathed his last and it was a bittersweet memory that he still recognized me, disoriented though he was.
This sunset photo (I made it grainy in texture) was taken when we were on our way home from that visit:
Here is the photo without the grainy texture.
We went back a few days after for his wake but we just stayed for some time since we had to travel back home. It was good to see relatives even if the circumstances were sad. Spending some time with them, albeit it was a very short time made me realize how much I have been amiss on what is happening with them. Continue Reading »
