Best Friends of the Forest (BFF) Movement

Last year, on March 21, 2018, on the International Day of the Forest, the Best Friends of the Forest (BFF) Movement was born. Founded by the Forest Foundation of the Philippines, the BFF Movement is a community of young and action-oriented environmentalists, artists, travelers, and social entrepreneurs. The group aims to inspire and enable more millennials to be advocates of forest conservation and protection.

The need for millennials to take up the mantle of conservation for their generation is more urgent than ever before.

“The threat of deforestation has become so severe that we are losing forest cover at an alarming rate. If we do not take action, our forests may not be around for the next generation to see,” said Forest Foundation Philippines’ Executive Director, Atty. Jose Canivel a year ago, during the launch of the BFF Movement.

Anybody with a heart for forest conservation can join the BFF Movement. A year since it was launched, it has gathered the support of many outspoken environmental advocates. BFF Movement has also gotten the attention of young people looking for ways to make the world a better place.

TreasureJarFind: Tori Chizu

One of the places we love to go to for filling and delicious food is Tori Chizu. This is located at the second floor of TriNoma Mall. I am not sure if the store has other branches though.

Anyway, I have already brought 2 friends there and they love it.

Photo with my cousin, October 2018

My personal favorite is the Chicken Teriyaki which has gooey cheese on top of the chicken balls and rice.

(Photo from December 2018)

The hubby likes the ramen while the kids love the fried chicken and other Doria meals.

Expect to pay 150 – 200 per person.

Photo from March 2019. Yes, we remove the green onions because my hubby is allergic to these.

This is not a paid advertisement, we’ve paid for all the food we ordered during several times we’ve been there.

Stop Pangingilo with Gumtect Toothpaste

With the holidays upon us, Christmas get togethers are happening. Aside from gift giving, celebrating friendships and meaningful relationships, bonding over lovingly prepared food is one of the things we look forward to during this season.

But wait… if you have DENTAL HYPERSENSITIVITY  or PANGINGILO, you wouldn’t be able to enjoy the scrumptious food prepped for the celebrations you have been invited to.

Masakit mga mamsh. Pangingilo is something you don’t want to feel especially when you have so much #platefuloffun served for you!

Do you know that pangingilo or dental hypersensitivity begins when the inner part of the tooth is uncovered through gum receding, over-brushing and eating acidic food? So, hinay hinay lang mga mamsh, because according to a study in 2011 by the National Monitoring and EvaluationDental Survey, 48% of our kababayans suffer some form of gum disease. That means not being able to enjoy ice cream, halo-halo, ramen, bulalo, sisig, ok you got the idea.

Doug and Cheska Kramer, oral healthcare advocates for Gumtect reiterates how important it is to take care of your teeth and gums. “I want to maximize my bonding moments with my family, enjoying food like ice cream and buco salad. I want to be able to indulge in my favorite holiday dishes without having to think about pangingilo.”

And yes, if you are a parent, start your children young in being able to take good care of their oral health.

More videos here.

Pangingilo, singaw and ngi-pain are really not so cool. Watch this video.

Yikes!

Just like the Kramers, our family loves to eat (all these #platefuloffun photos are my food prep!) and what better way to enjoy these food if pangingilo gets in the way. I did a special video highlighting some of the recent food preps I made that we really enjoy because we have switched back to Gumtect Toothpaste. Gumtect toothpaste has been prescribed to us by a dentist back when it was just a new product in the market.

Pangingilo doesn’t just happen during the holiday season fun. It can strike you when your teeth has not been receiving the proper oral healthcare that it should.

Dr. JV Jaurigue, External Vice President of the Philippine Society of Periodontology said that “Oral care is essential to our health. Rather than dealing with complications and difficulties with gum diseases, it is better to orevent these from happening.” Ayan, the good dentist has spoken, take care of your teeth not just for the pangingilo but for the complications that go with unhealthy oral hygiene.

Gumtect Brand Marketing Manager, Atria Casidsid also encourages people to use especially formulated Gumtect toothpaste to help promote healthy gums so that gum problems would not get in the way of holiday fun, and everyday food fun as well.

Gumtect Gumcare is the only gumcare toothpaste with GUMSHIELD+ that has Allantoin, which improves the conditions of the gums. It also has Vitamin E which moisturizes gums and Triclean that reduces the formation of plaque and shield against harmful mouth bacteria. Gumtect Sensitive meanwhile has a Dynamic Desensitizing System that helps relive sensitive teeth. Both Gumtect Sensitive (in red!) and Guntect Gumcare (in blue!) also have Active Anti-Cavity Protection for fresh breath and strong teeth enamel.

Pasig City, Philippine Winner of WWF One Planet City Challenge 2018

Pasig City Named Philippine Winner of WWF’s One Planet City Challenge 2018

Pasig City has been declared as the Philippine National Capital of the 2017-2017 edition of World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) One Planet City Challenge (OPCC). This is a biennial global challenge that recognizes cities for developing infrastructure, housing, transport and mobility solutions to power the global transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future. 2018 had 133 cities representing 23 countries accepting the Challenge.

These are Pasig’s actions that made it a winner that reflected the “sustainable transport and mobility” theme of this run of the OPCC and have made the city eligible for the Global OPCC Prize

  • concrete and comprehensive actions to reduce its carbon emissions, particularly its plan to reduce traffic emissions and congestions
  • its targeted actions around renewable energy and energy efficiency
  • the city’s strong community engagement and its adaptation actions, such as the cleaning of the Pasig River
  • its strong alignment of actions to emissions reduction and execution of said actions.

Seven other Philippine cities have successfully qualified to join the 2017-2018 OPCC based on the criteria announced early in 2017:

  • Batangas
  • Catbalogan
  • Makati
  • Parañaque
  • San Carlos
  • Tagum
  • Zamboanga

The cities of Makati, Pasig, and San Carlos went on to become national finalists and participated in the “We Love Cities” global campaign from May 7 until the end of June 2018.

The City of Jakarta bagged the top plum in the campaign, which is a social media contest that is aimed at inspiring and engaging the respective citizens of the national finalists across the globe for support, votes, and ideas for improvement while Pasig came in second.

Laundry Tips for the Rainy Season

Doing laundry can be very tricky with rainfall becoming increasingly unpredictable. Nothing is more frustrating than washing piles of clothes only for them to turn out damp and smelly because of the gloomy weather. To keep your newly washed garments clean, fresh and vibrant this rainy season, follow these laundry tips from Electrolux Philippines.

1) Use dryers to avoid accumulating moisture

Sun dried clothes smell best but when the rains are here, the clothes smell musty because the moisture is trapped in the clothes. What’s worse is that the when worn, these kulob clothes smell nasty too, like you’ve got body odor. Ugh!

The best solution is to invest in a dryer. The Electrolux UltimateCare Washer Dryer delivers excellent results in keeping your clothes perfectly dry. It has Smart Sensor feature, which also prevents harmful over-drying. Moreover, it’s a 2-in-1 machine that can also wash your clothes efficiently. It’s a great choice for those looking to buy a dryer without needing to worry about extra space in the house.

2) Combat stains while protecting color

If clothes become stained with mud and dirt from the rain, here is what you should do:

  • wipe them away before they set
  • For older stains, vinegar or baking soda have often been recommended as tried and tested ways of cleaning them.

Some stains, however, are harder to remove, which may lead to using excessive detergent, over-washing and color-fading. This is where the Electrolux UltimateCare Washing Machines effectively removes stains while keeping your clothes vibrant.

  • UltraMix Technology in Electrolux washing machines fully dissolve detergent to deliver a deeper clean.
  • Load Sensor Automation feature which displays the recommended amount of detergent based on the weight of your clothes, helping you get the most out of each load while avoiding overloading and over-washing.

3) Add fabric conditioner

Adding fabric conditioner to your wash is a good way to combat these problems:

  • breaking down and losing the clothes textures due to the rains.
  • earthy scent of wet soil that can stick to clothing.
  • damp conditions create the ultimate breeding ground for bacteria on your clothes.

Fabric conditioners helps to soften and improve the texture of your clothing, while also keeping your clothes smelling great even through the rain. On top of that, some fabric conditioners also boast anti-bacterial properties, making sure that your clothes are fresh and germ-free. Personally, I add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to the wash.

4) Keep your washing machine clean

Washing machines are also breeding ground of residues of dirt, mold and mildew which build up and produce odors inside.

You can clean your washing machine by running a wash cycle with the machine empty. This clears out any detergent that has built up in the machine. Make sure to always wipe it inside and out for any residues that may have built up. It is also best to use a washing machine cover to protect it from heat, mold and moisture.

5) Place scented items or odor eliminators in your closet

Ensure that your clothes don’t develop a stale smell, try adding essential oils to your closet. Dab a few drops of the oil on cotton balls then place it in the corner of your closet. Do this especially during the rainy season.

Another alternatives you can use are the following:

  • coffee grounds.
  • scented dryer sheets
  • silica packets for shoes
  • baking soda
  • strongly scented wood.
