The Ultimate Global Pinoy is…

And the Ultimate Global Pinoy is…

Thank You Global Pinoy

They are called the modern day heroes. Who are they? Our OFW or Overseas Filipino Workers who can be found all over the world.

They are those nurses you see behind med carts, the smiling concierge, the people who keep your hotel rooms clean, the moms who look after other people’s children, the teachers in classrooms all over the world, the engineers and construction workers who build skyscrapers and the staff who take care of the elderly people.

Aptly called as the modern day hero, these 11 million overseas Filipino workers have earned the trust and admiration of employers all over the world.

The Commission of Filipinos Overseas, Duty Free Philippines, and Kraft Asia pay tribute to the Global Pinoys who showed excellence not only in their careers, but also in the initiatives to help their fellowmen in the country, through the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards. The Thank You Global Pinoy Awards is an initiative to search for the most outstanding global Filipino workers who deserve the gratitude not only of their loved ones; but also of the nation as a whole. It was primarily led by the Commission of Filipinos Overseas, the government agency tasked to promote and uphold the interests of Filipino emigrants and permanent residents abroad.

The online nominations ran from October 2011 to February 2012, and 10 outstanding overseas Filipino workers have been chosen and will be announced during the Awards Night on March 15, 2012.

“In its tradition of being the thank you and pasalubong chocolate from overseas Filipinos, Toblerone has initiated this project in order to give back, and give each and every Global Pinoy what they truly deserve—a sweet thank you,” shares Jaya Singh, Region Director, Middle East and Asia Pacific, Kraft Foods World Travel Retail.

Old Churches

I love metal buildings that have great designs but I also love old concrete ones, especially those that “tell” stories.

old church

Churches are a particular interest I like to take photos of or visit, if given the chance. These structures have been witness to many joyous events as well as sad ones. The walls have echoed silent tears of happiness and joy as well as grief and sadness.

Do you have a favorite church? Why do you like it?

Summer Vacation Plans for Your Children

Got summer plans already?

There is so much to do during summer and for sure, school children will not get bored with the many choices as to what they can do when school’s out:

  • travel and see how much fun it is in the Philippines (needs time to plan and budget for expenses)
  • cooking classes which also includes learning new skills like sanitation, cutting, sieving, food styling and nutrition facts
  • photography
  • styling classes
  • swimming, soccer, basketball, baseball, badminton classes for the sporty ones
  • piano, guitar, violin and voice lessons for the musically inclined
  • summer classes, whether advanced or for failed academic subjects
  • arts and crafts lessons for the crafty ones (this can be done at home because there are lots of tutorials to be found in the web)

There is so much to do during summer and there is no need for children to get bored. If budget is a problem, be creative and you can still have a lot of fun too!
