The Ultimate Global Pinoy is…

And the Ultimate Global Pinoy is…

Thank You Global Pinoy

They are called the modern day heroes. Who are they? Our OFW or Overseas Filipino Workers who can be found all over the world.

They are those nurses you see behind med carts, the smiling concierge, the people who keep your hotel rooms clean, the moms who look after other people’s children, the teachers in classrooms all over the world, the engineers and construction workers who build skyscrapers and the staff who take care of the elderly people.

Aptly called as the modern day hero, these 11 million overseas Filipino workers have earned the trust and admiration of employers all over the world.

The Commission of Filipinos Overseas, Duty Free Philippines, and Kraft Asia pay tribute to the Global Pinoys who showed excellence not only in their careers, but also in the initiatives to help their fellowmen in the country, through the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards. The Thank You Global Pinoy Awards is an initiative to search for the most outstanding global Filipino workers who deserve the gratitude not only of their loved ones; but also of the nation as a whole. It was primarily led by the Commission of Filipinos Overseas, the government agency tasked to promote and uphold the interests of Filipino emigrants and permanent residents abroad.

The online nominations ran from October 2011 to February 2012, and 10 outstanding overseas Filipino workers have been chosen and will be announced during the Awards Night on March 15, 2012.

“In its tradition of being the thank you and pasalubong chocolate from overseas Filipinos, Toblerone has initiated this project in order to give back, and give each and every Global Pinoy what they truly deserve—a sweet thank you,” shares Jaya Singh, Region Director, Middle East and Asia Pacific, Kraft Foods World Travel Retail.

We Joined the Run United 1 2012

finish line

We ran (or rather walked, hopped, skipped and tiptoed, just kidding) in Unilab’s Run United 1 2012 at the SM MOA last March 4, 2012.

10k runners

Over-all the race was fun, especially at the 3k where everyone was in high spirits. I think most of the people there were newbie runners. There was quite a big number of children in that category and that includes my youngest daughter.

Impressions:

  • The instructions were clear and the maps were easy to understand so we didn’t get lost and we knew exactly where to park to get to the starting line assigned for our category, 3k.
  • Categories were segregated. The 3k runners ran with the 10 k runners while the 5k runners were on the other side of the same street. The 500m dash start and finish had an altogether different route along with the 21k runners who had an early start at the BGC and ended at the MOA.
  • This race was more organized than the one we went to last year, the Run United 1 2011 because if I remember it right, there was only one finish line across all categories and it was a chaos then with  people going to and fro the finish line.
  • There were lots of marshals who were smiling and some even greeted us “Good morning” when our eyes meet.
  • The hydration tables were positioned appropriately and there were less trash on the road, unlike last year’s trash.

activity center

  • The activity centers’ booths were positioned well too and there were no long lines to get the finisher’s kits.

All in all, it was an experience we will certainly remember.

Finisher's Kit

Would we be joining Unilab’s Run United 2 2012?

The answer is a YES!
