Toblerone Thank You Global Pinoy

The Global Pinoy.

We always hear that expression not because Filipinos can be found almost anywhere but because Filipinos are world-class and that include being exemplary overseas workers.

As a way to say “Thank You” to our modern day heroes, Toblerone, with GeiserMaclang, is initiating Thank You Global Pinoy.

Toblerone Thank You Global Pinoy

“The challenge that was posed to us back in 2007 was to market an ad-proof product—a product whose sales didn’t seem to be affected by any amount of witty one-liners or flashy celebrity endorsers,” shares Amor Maclang, Director for Communications of GeiserMaclang. “ Since advertising didn’t work and rebranding was out of the question, there was a need for Toblerone to be seen in a different light. Toblerone had to be more than just a sweet treat. It had to stand for something more, something that the consumers would be able to relate to — this led to the brand being directly associated with the Filipino value of gratitude”.

Based on the 2006 Reader’s Digest poll where Manila ranked low in the courtesy department which includes saying “thank you”, Toblerone challenged the Filipinos by having the first ever-National Thank You Day in 2007.

The late former president Cory Aquino was the person whom the nation said “Thank You” to in 2009.

This year, Toblerone, in partnership with GeiserMaclang, Commission of Filipinos Overseas, Duty-Free Philippines and Good News Pilipinas is announcing the first ever Thank You Global Pinoy Awards.

Duty Free Philippines is supporting the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards in order to promote the Filipino trait of showing appreciation and gratitude.

Toblerone has also launched the Special Rewards Passport that can be used to redeem gifts and special privileges from partner establishments.

“Four years ago, the brand sought to simultaneously revive the art of saying thank you and position Toblerone as synonymous with the value of gratitude,” shares Mr Jaya Singh, Region Director, Middle East and Asia Pacific, Kraft Foods World Travel Retail  “And the overwhelming support that we got – a congressional legislation declaring an official  ‘National Thank You Day’ alongside massive media and private sector participation— proved that yes, the value of gratitude resounded with Filipinos. This year, we hope to rally that same groundswell of support, this time, for our Global Filipinos”.

Thank You Global Pinoy Awards is open to anyone who knows of an outstanding overseas Filipino worker who deserves to be thanked.

Has Social Media Changed Your Life?

Let’s admit it, being in the midst of the action in social media seems to be that BIG thing since sending sms has been introduced to us Filipinos. You know, we who boasts as THE texting capital of the world and upcoming Facebook superstar in terms of sheer number of accounts created, real accounts to the right and dummy accounts to the left are all counted here.

Anyway, Facebook is not the only social media platform we all use. Twitter is another form of social media which very well takes third place, where sms is still king for now and Facebook comes second, in terms of sending messages and group announcements. Other microblogging sites are catching up too.

Yes dearies, the young has invaded Twitter too and why not? Sending messages to friends via Twitter is FREE. Free in terms of not using data charge per message sent per subscriber. Imagine, if all your friends are in Twitter, you can just send a status update to your 10 friends that tomorrow you will be going to the mall after school. There’s really no need to  shell out money ten times multiplied several times as the number of messages because you can reply several times as long as you want to.

I’m sure the telcos are squirming in their seats trying to think of ways on how their subscribers can part with their hard-earned money.

For me, there’s a dark side to engaging in these social media tools when it comes to communicating with friends, real or virtual. Continue Reading »

WesternUnion Launches “Are You the Most Globally Networked Individual?”

Western Union celebrates its 160th Anniversary by launching the Western Union Network Challenge. The Western Union Network Challenge aims to identify the Most Globally Networked Person in the World.

As for us in the Philippines, we will see how geographically networked we are through a new online interactive application called Your World.

MECHANICS:

  • Log-in to your Facebook account at  www.westernunionworld.com/yourworld so that the application can calculate your global connectivity. This app will also be able to post items like notes and photographs into your wall.
  • When logged in, you will be given a visual representation of the geographical locations of your Facebook friends. The countries are represented as “planets” in your own personal universe. More planets mean more global connectivity with friends living overseas.
  • This is a self-promoting application. Whenever you interact with the app, an alert is published in your Facebook wall inviting your friends to join so they can also see how globally networked they are.
  • For the competitive individuals, you can have your own score or World Index based on how globally connected you are and this score will be compared against your Facebook and others who are using the application.

Here is my World Index:

W Union

CHALLENGE:

Try this application: YOUR WORLD and see how what score you will get in the World Index? See how globally networked you are.

Would you like to join me and see how you fare? You can see your friends who live and work overseas as nurses, engineers, doctors, Reservations Clerk jobs, chambermaid and domestic mangers in this World Index. How fun it that?

Here’s how:

  1. Login to YOUR WORLD
  2. Take a screenshot of your personal universe and email the photo to me treasureATtreasurejarDOTinfo. Or better yet, write about it in your blog or post on your FB wall.
  3. You can also tweet  the  statement:  Are  you  more  globally  connected  than  me?  Take  the  Western  Union  Challenge  at  westernunionworld.com/yourworld  + (blog) name
  4. Do this and you will be surprised how you fare as a Globally Networked person 🙂

DISCLOSURE:

No  Partnership

There is no  partnership  or   relationship  of similar  nature  between  Western  Union  and  I,  nor am I endorsing  the  Western  Union® Money Transfer service.

P.S. I’ve used Western Union several times for personal transactions and I even have this card because I used the service 😀

When Things Go Wrong

I don’t know if it’s the (almost) full moon tonight but it seems that a lot of things had gone haywire.

Good thing lunch with my friends iMom, Cess and Cookie went smoothly. But after that almost everything went a downward spiral.

Except of course today’s the birthday of our eldest daughter so that is more than enough reason to be happy.

I know these things that happened earlier shouldn’t affect me but I can’t help but feel sad. I’d rather “read about rv insurance quotes for half a day” or learn “how to spot a cheetah several miles away at a savannah” than relive what happened earlier.

Well, not totally relive since I wasn’t “there” in the first place and all I got was “hearsay”.

Argh.

Full moon rising.
