Archy McNally

Archibald “Archy” McNally is a flamboyant, funny and extra-ordinaire sleuth character created by Lawrence Sanders for McNally series of books.

What have I learned about Archy?

In the series, food preparation and it’s taste description are given a lot of thought that I feel like the food I’m used to eating will not pass Archy’s sophisticated palate. He is a member of the Pelican Club.

He has been going out with Consuela for the longest time (at least in the book).

He goes for a swim across his home, which is actually a room in his parents’ big home. His mom loves begonias. His father is a revered lawyer who runs McNally and Son. They have cocktails before dinner. He has a sister in another state.

He wears outrageous clothes that will sure catch the attention of other people.

He drives a Miata.

He smokes English Ovals.

He asks discreet questions for bits of juicy gossip from the help who has connections with other help in the area.

He drinks beer with Sgt Rogoff who listens to opera music and goes to  NY to watch ballet.

He is friends with Binky, an heir of his (Binky’s) aunt, who can make bird calls and is a neighbor of the sergeant. He works at the McNally and Son delivering the mail to employees.

Thank you Vincent Lardo for continuing to write about Archy 🙂

I am glad to see someone else who loves the McNally novels.

You state that Binky is an heir of his (Archy’s) aunt, but this is not the case. Archy’s aunt is not Binky’s benefactoress/aunt. Archy and Binky are not related. Binky’s parents were lost at sea when Binky was a tot, and “…he was raised by a wealthy maiden aunt, one of the grandest grande dames of Palm Beach.” She is referred to as the Duchess.

Scot, thanks for the visit and the comment.

The aunt I meant was Binky’s aunt I just probably didn’t word my sentence correctly 🙂

Have you read all Archy McNally’s books?

The Lardo books, I have observed something about the way these were written.
