Keep Christmas With You All Through the Year

Christmas is an excuse to indulge excessively, if you ask me. The spirit of giving to other and to the self is interpreted differently.

Sure, its nice to give (and to receive) but at times people equate this with price tags.

Christmas should be a day of thanksgiving, of introspection of what we can do in our small ways to “heal” the world.

I wrote this comment in Lynn’s blog post when she answered my Weekly Question about Christmas traditions.

I know I am a bit overboard in my expectations of how Christmas should be spent. Maybe I was a bit annoyed when neighbors had their music blasting pop songs before the strike of twelve during Christmas Eve. For once, can’t people enjoy songs that lift the spirits, songs that sing about hope and love and about the reason why we are celebrating this special day?

Of course, celebrating the birth of Jesus during this day is “just” symbolic and is not really the exact date. What should matter is remembering how the Son of God came to the world in humble beginnings, with shepherds and their flock visiting Him although they were with choirs of angels.

People sometimes say that everyday should be like Christmas or something to that effect. I agree. Without the excessive food, decorations and gifts, the spirit of Christmas should prevail.

In our hearts and how we live our lives, we should be thankful, loving and appreciative of the blessings we have in life.

As one of my favorite songs entitled “Keep Christmas With You All Through the Year” (sung by the Muppets) say:

“When Christmas time is over and presents are away, don’t be sad. There’ll be so much to treasure about this Christmas Day and the fun we had”

“Keep Christmas with you all through the year.”

“Christmas means a spirit of giving, peace and joy to you. The goodness of loving, the gladness of living, These are Christmas too”

‘Nuff said, the Muppets couldn’t have said it better.
